MuslamicaCase study
A Muslim companion app for practising faith alongside others.

TheProblem
Staying consistent with worship on your own is hard. Doing it alongside others — reciting together, asking for duas, seeing friends keep a streak — makes it easier to keep going.
Muslamica gives that a home: a community built around practising faith rather than scrolling, where most features involve doing something together.
TheProduct
Its flagship feature is reciting the Qur'an together: companions take turns ayah by ayah, either by recording their part or reciting live in real time. Around it are dua requests and expressions, companions and profiles, streaks and leaderboards, an anonymous mailbox, Qur'an games and virtual gifts.
It's a long-running product rather than a one-off build. The app has been in development since 2021 and has grown feature by feature on the App Store and Google Play, alongside a website for subscriptions and account features.
InsideThe app

Dua requests and expressions from the community.
Profiles, streaks and recitation leaderboards.
Qur'an games to play with companions.
An anonymous mailbox for advice and support.

Search and AI features
Algolia-powered search across hadith, duas and mailbox posts, and OpenAI integrations including comparing a user's recitation with a reciter's audio.
A backend that serves two apps
Muslamica's backend is a set of Firebase Cloud Functions with validated endpoints, scheduled jobs for streaks and leaderboards, and integrations with Stripe, RevenueCat, Agora, Algolia, AWS S3 and OpenAI.
When gardeen came along, it reused the same accounts, Premium subscription and infrastructure — a decision that only works because the backend was built to be extended.
MyRole
I've built and maintained Muslamica across its life: the React Native app, the Firebase Cloud Functions backend that serves it, its website, and every release to both stores.
That includes the unglamorous parts of running a real app — debugging production issues, upgrading through Expo SDK versions, handling account deletion and moderation, and keeping payments and subscriptions working.
